Connect Battle.net and stop typing your own alts

You can now link your Battle.net account and let Hootus read the character list off it. One trip, every character on the account, spelled the way Blizzard spells them. He checks each one against the armory before saving it, so a name that lingers in the account list but no longer exists does not turn up on your roster. Fresh characters below level 10 come through too, which is the one case typing a name has never worked for. It is entirely optional, Discord is still how you sign in, and no long-lived access is kept: the token is used once and thrown away, which is why re-importing means signing in again.

Verified and claimed, and Hootus is honest about which

Characters that came out of a connected Battle.net account are marked verified. Characters somebody typed in are claimed. Both are perfectly fine and neither is an accusation, but now an officer can tell them apart at a glance instead of guessing. Disconnect and your characters stay exactly where they are, dropping back to previously verified rather than vanishing. Hootus will also refuse to hand the same character to two different people, and tells an officer when somebody tries.

Connecting Battle.net stopped being a well-kept secret

The linking page existed but nothing pointed at it, so unless you happened to run the command you would never have known it was there. It now lives on your profile with the rest of the things that are about you rather than about your guild, and there is a quiet line on My Characters where the difference between verified and claimed is actually in front of you. Already connected? Neither one nags you about it.

A character with no spec stopped confusing him

Some characters have never picked a spec or spent a talent point, and Blizzard says so by sending back nothing at all. Hootus was reading that as a shape he did not recognise, complaining about it every single sync, and throwing away a spec he already knew from elsewhere. He now tells the difference between nothing to report and something genuinely odd, and keeps what he knows. Nobody was ever blocked from signing up over this, since roles go by class.
