Say The True Thing

Somebody read every message Hootus sends, all two hundred and thirty of them, and asked two questions of each: is this still true, and does it offer you the thing you obviously need next. It was not, and it did not. Reminders were shipping a link that said [object Promise]. People were told an officer had been pinged when nobody had. The recruitment invite was going to the whole channel. And when he is about to undo something one of your officers decided, he now asks you first instead of just doing it.

2 New

  1. Hootus asks before undoing something an officer decided

Every hour he checks who should be a member against your WoW roster, and if somebody is not on it any more he moves them. If one of your officers had approved that person by hand, he now stops and asks instead: one message in your officer channel listing everyone affected, with buttons to keep them or let it go through. Keeping someone writes it down properly, so it holds rather than lasting an hour. Ignore the message and he asks again tomorrow, and says so.

  2. Tick promotions off without leaving Discord

Promotion day told you who had earned a rank and then sent you to a web page to mark it, and the link went to the wrong page anyway, the one where you edit the rules. Now the message itself carries the buttons, it points at the right page, and the list updates as you tick people off. Hootus still cannot hand out guild ranks, so he suggests and you decide, which is the way round it should be.

2 Improved

  1. Fewer database words in front of you

Statuses like needs_review, raw Discord error text, environment variable names and internal content keys were all leaking into messages guild members read. Roll call ids, raid ids and a guild snowflake in a URL too. They now say what they mean, and the raw detail goes to the logs where it belongs.

  2. Dead ends got a way out

A PUG who applied when no raids were open got a shrug; they can now ask to be told when one opens. An applicant already on the roster was told to find an officer; they now get /verify and a button. A roll call that failed to post sat open forever in your list; it closes itself now.

6 Fixed

  1. Hootus stopped saying an officer was told when nobody was

Seven different messages promised that an officer had been given a hoot, over a send that quietly failed or had no channel to go to. The worst was a settled status that claimed a review was coming when no review existed and nothing was ever queued: twelve people are sitting in it right now. Each of those messages now says who was actually reached, and if nobody was, it says that and tells you to grab an officer yourself.

  2. The PUG invite stopped going to the whole channel

One branch of /raid pug-invite was missing the flag that keeps a reply private, so the recruitment invite, the signup link and the soft reserve link went to everyone in the channel instead of to you. Same for a gear lookup during a Blizzard outage, which posted the failure publicly.

  3. Reopening a raid stopped claiming nothing was lost

Benching somebody overwrites the role they signed up as, and nothing anywhere remembers what it used to be, so reopening the raid cannot give it back. The message said the opposite, and told officers to fix it with /raid move, which refuses on a reopened raid and only shuffles groups anyway. It now says what actually happened and names the two things that do work.

  4. Hootus stopped announcing roles that never landed

A dozen places did the work, swallowed the failure, and then told you it worked. Promote someone and the rank embed appeared whether or not the role stuck. Approve a member and they got a DM saying their roles were set when they had none. Say yes to a guest and they were told they had social access that was never granted. Every one of those now checks, and says which part failed and what to do about it.

  5. More places stopped blaming your spelling for a Blizzard outage

The armory being unreachable was still being reported as a typo in six more places, including /character add, /gear and the roster sync notice. Each one now tells the difference between a character that is genuinely not there, an armory that cannot be reached, and a bot with no Blizzard credentials at all.

  6. /officer-verify stopped refusing almost everyone

It turned away anybody who had any record at all, which meant the exact people an officer reaches for it to fix. It now refuses only those already approved or already denied, and points at /manage member reset for both.
